Today school was canceled, which just makes me laugh. Growing up school was only canceled when you couldn’t see two feet in front of you. I remember sitting in class staring out the window and thinking, “I have to walk home in THAT! Can we go home.” THAT was so thick and heavy you could see 5 ft from the window. Living in the city, I chuckle at the amount of snow THAT causes school to be canceled. Times change and when we are young everything is so much bigger than when we are adults. Who knows maybe I was just small and the snow seemed more then. I will say I remember shoveling snow thigh deep snow and being able to go to the neighbors and jump off the roof of the garage into snow piles. Not happening here.

Now my own kids are making there own memories. This morning after panicking because I was on the treadmill and let them sleep in, they came down stairs full dressed and ready for school. LOL!! WHO KNEW THEY COULD GET THEMSELVES READY FOR SCHOOL??? Both girls couldn’t wait to get outside to play in the snow. The neighbor kids joined them and after a few hours they were cold. The nice thing was no matter how cold they were they kept a smile on their face and enjoyed the time to play outside with their friends. Just like kids should do.

For a while, I have been trying to figure out where I wanted to take my business in 2010. It’s something every business needs to keep in mind to continue to grow and succeed. After much thought by myself and my family, I have decided to not book any clients until further notice.

I want to thank all the families I have meet in the past few years, you all captured a little part of my heart and will be remembered dearly. I appreciated your trust and confidence in Unscripted Moments Photography. Without you all, I could not be where I am today. Thank you with the utmost sincerity.

My plan is to continue posting to the blog, hopefully more than I  have . To share little parts of my life and what my family and I are doing. Thank you for understanding and reading.

Sometimes I struggle to consider myself an artist. Not being trained to be an artist I question myself and how good I am doing in the world. Sure I have photos/artwork I like, from other photogs/artist as well as from myself but I have a hard time when someone says they love my work. I don’t see it.

My goal for 2010 is to find my creative energy and these two clay bots are going to be part of it. Look for more photos to come.

Isn’t she ADORABLE!! Her mom decorated her room and it was beautiful I couldn’t resist making sure to capture one of the little things parents do to make children feel welcomed. The blanket was made by grandma.

I also can’t resist seeing newborns in their fathers arms or hands. To me there is something about the size of dad’s hands and the tenderness of a baby.

AND I have to say, normally I do not allow other photographers at my sessions but when Big Sister wanted to take photos I couldn’t say no. I should have though, she’s 2.5 yrs old and has good form and composition. YIKES!! I loved T.

The Elf on the Shelf is back “on” the shelf in it’s box. I feel bad because I bought the kit yesterday thinking the girls would LOVE it. Well R. was excited and looked everywhere for the elf. H. screamed in terror…LITERALLY. The moment she realized the elf was IN the house she freaked.

I thought maybe it was the unknown of not knowing where the elf was but once R. found the elf in the Christmas Tree H. avoided the tree like the plague. She stayed within 2 inches of me for the rest of the night. Again I thought she would get excited about the elf in the morning. OOOHHH NO!!! H. was glued to me again, but this time not knowing where the elf would be H. was jumpy all morning.  I asked H….

me: do you want me to hold you so you can look at the elf?

H: (clinging to the buffett and gained a look of terror) shakes head no

me: come on, i’ll hold you…

H: No (clinging tighter to buffett)

R: laughing in the background

me: come on ( i grab her and lift her up)

H: (wraps her legs and arms around me and squeezes tightly, not willing to look at the elf) nooooooo

me: are you sure, it’s ok?

H: nooooooo

me: ok, the elf will know he scares you and will go back to Santa’s workshop. He’ll have to watch you two from there. Santa will understand, and “danny” the elf will have to try again next year.

H: (still clinging tightly) ok

I guess the spirit to be terrified is greater than the spirit to believe. Next year we will try again….(on a side note…the photo was taken with my iphone using the shakeit app.)

I look at this photo and am reminded of the beauty of what the Christmas season should be about. We all have different religious backgrounds and beliefs, even amongst our own families. Whether you celebrate Christmas doesn’t matter, it’s believe in the possibility of something or someone brings good things to our life.

For most children and families, those things are gifts, for other’s it’s health or the presence of a friend/family member. I love seeing that my own girls still believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. For me it means they still believe in magic and don’t understand all the things that can go wrong in the world. We all know they will figure those unfortunate lessons all to soon.

So as you celebrate the holiday, I hope you celebrate the innocences of a child and how through their eyes the holidays are magic, anything is possible. Be safe and enjoy!!

So you probably guessed it, It’s cookie making time. This year I made a resolution with myself to not eat a ton of cookies and to not gain more than 10lbs ok 2lbs. Hopefully, I won’t gain any…maybe even loose some but you get the point. Christmas is weeks away. Where did 2009 go, I am sad and excited all at the same time. I was able to meet so many wonderful families again this year, it was pleasure to capture your unscripted moments. Sad because that means all the kids, including mine, are getting older! NOT me though, I haven’t aged in a few years. I am still 26. Odd number to choose, so I’ve been told.

Almost caused myself to get frostbite on my fingers but I was out on the frozen merry-go-round this morning. Yes Frost covered everything making it slippery. Must have given the car sitting in the car at the park a few laughs, watching me trying to get this shot. LOL! just a little fun.

I have never considered myself an “artist” growning up. Far from it really, always thought I was more methodical in thinking, until the past few years.  When I started to really obsess about taking photos, it was to make sure i documented my own family’s life. To help myself and my girls remember the everyday moments we lived.

More and more I loved playing around with different photoshop processes, lens, angles, camera, etc. I feel in love with the art of capturing everyday life. It helped me realize I am an artist. Maybe not a Picaso or DiVinci but an artist all the same. Now, I carry around a moleskin journal and write down thoughts, songs, inspirations, whatever I hear or see. I use those notes to help inspire my photography.  I have also started taking guitar lessons and LOVE it! My only wish is I would have started a long time ago. I could be a ROCK STAR! What was I thinking!!!

Why am I telling you this? Well, as we get older we feel like we can’t or shouldn’t do something. It’s too late to start learning some thing new. I say “no it’s NOT” find a passion no matter what it is and do it. We don’t all have to become rich n famous to enjoy our hobbies and life.  Life is about loving what you do, to let your soul shine with happiness because it’s what you want to be or do. So go out and try.
