11/52 [me & my shadow]

Every click of the shutter I ask myself why am I taking this photo? If you’ve seen the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine hoards the “sponges” you’ll really understand when I say, I really ask myself; “is this photo ‘sponge’ worthy?” For a while I used to take photos for other people. Thinking… “OMG, I…

Your cat is important to you, snap away! :)

Agree 100%. My girls hate when I pull out my camera but later in life they will laugh at them all. My memory sucks at times so I need to be able to remember this life. :)

Amazing post Kim!!! You eloquently describe the bumps of being a “momographer”. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I love your photos followed by your post, I can connect to your story being a mother myself to four kids, no matter what I do there is a camera in my purse, or in my hand nearly all day. People ask me why I take so many photos and my answer is simple, I need to remember these little moments. Every time I look back at a photo I can remember that exact day it was taken, I need my kids to remember all the joys and steps we took in life together as a family, if someone happens to leave this earth early its the photos and memories we have that will connect us back to them and the special times spent together. I don’t know if it was my dads passing in 2007 that triggered this camera/photo obsession or just the fact I have always loved photos, it doesn’t really matter to me anymore, all that matters is that I document every part of our lives with photographs. From the best moments to the saddest moments, its just all in photographs for us. I think our kids will love all that we have done photo wise when they grow up and become parents themselves, I am sure we are passing to them some wonderful moments and the importance of documenting their own children.

I love this! I feel the same about photographs of my cats (bad comparison, I know…but it’s true!). Personally, I love seeing your photos of your children. You have such a creative eye and it is nice to see creative photos of kids for a change. Another photographer who takes a lot of kid photos is Jen Altman and I never get tired of hers either. Keep them coming! :-)

P.S. Nice sponge reference. ;)

9/52 [how's it going to be]

Attitude. Laying in bed, the alarm is buzzing and I don’t want to get up. I wanted to write about how life is full of shit and it’s our attitude which determines how we handle the piles which accumulate in front of us. The words come and go in my head, the moment I start…

7/52[in my place]

Lately I’ve been thinking about where is my photography voice/style? After getting some film images back, I thought “I’m all over the place with my style.” Lots of photographers take years to develop a voice. I’ve been shooting digital images for years and feel like I have a digital photography voice, but not so much…

Maybe it’s the fact we see the good the bad and the ugly in our own work, showing only the good.
