Every click of the shutter I ask myself why am I taking this photo? If you’ve seen the episode of Seinfeld where Elaine hoards the “sponges” you’ll really understand when I say, I really ask myself; “is this photo ‘sponge’ worthy?” For a while I used to take photos for other people. Your cat is important to you, snap away!
Agree 100%. My girls hate when I pull out my camera but later in life they will laugh at them all. My memory sucks at times so I need to be able to remember this life.
Amazing post Kim!!! You eloquently describe the bumps of being a “momographer”. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I love your photos followed by your post, I can connect to your story being a mother myself to four kids, no matter what I do there is a camera in my purse, or in my hand nearly all day. People ask me why I take so many photos and my answer is simple, I need to remember these little moments. Every time I look back at a photo I can remember that exact day it was taken, I need my kids to remember all the joys and steps we took in life together as a family, if someone happens to leave this earth early its the photos and memories we have that will connect us back to them and the special times spent together. I don’t know if it was my dads passing in 2007 that triggered this camera/photo obsession or just the fact I have always loved photos, it doesn’t really matter to me anymore, all that matters is that I document every part of our lives with photographs. From the best moments to the saddest moments, its just all in photographs for us. I think our kids will love all that we have done photo wise when they grow up and become parents themselves, I am sure we are passing to them some wonderful moments and the importance of documenting their own children.
I love this! I feel the same about photographs of my cats (bad comparison, I know…but it’s true!). Personally, I love seeing your photos of your children. You have such a creative eye and it is nice to see creative photos of kids for a change. Another photographer who takes a lot of kid photos is Jen Altman and I never get tired of hers either. Keep them coming!
P.S. Nice sponge reference.
